Meet Mr. Lynn Johnson 

Mr. Lynn Johnson was evicted from his home. According to the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, as of January 2024, Texas had an estimated 27,897 people experiencing homelessness on any given day, as reported by the Continuums of Care to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Of that total, 6,339 were family households, 1,837 were veterans, 1,355 were unaccompanied young adults (aged 18-24), and 5,028 were individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.

Texas Homeowners Mortgage Assistance Program

Homeownership can be a dream threatened by unforeseen circumstances. Our mortgage assistance program aims to keep families in their homes by offering support during times of financial hardship. By helping families stay in their homes, we contribute to stronger communities and lasting change.

How to Apply

Prepare to apply by having the following document available:

  • Identification—One of the following:
    • ID card issued by the government
    • Birth Certificate
    • Social Security Card
    • Passport
  • Income Statements—One of the following:
    • Bank statements
    • Check stubs
  • Award letter for Social Security, SSI, TANF, SNAP, or Medicaid that shows your income
  • Proof of Residency
  • Mortgage Document—Name, phone number, and email

What to Expect After You Apply

  • TAF will review your application and confirm the details of your application with you.
  • TAF will determine how much you’ll receive in mortgage assistance.
  • If there is a question of eligibility, we may request more information from you.
  • If determined eligible, you will generally receive your first payment within 15-30 business days.
